On April 30, 2025, the University of Granada will host a specialized workshop titled “2D MX₂ Materials Devices Integration: Challenges and Opportunities for Logic Applications.” The event will be led by César Javier Lockhart de la Rosa, a senior researcher at IMEC renowned for his work on integrating 2D transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) into semiconductor technologies.
Workshop Overview
This one-day workshop aims to delve into the potential of 2D TMDs as semiconducting channels in logic devices, exploring their integration alongside or as replacements for silicon. Despite their promise, integrating these materials into fabrication processes remains a significant challenge. The workshop will address solutions developed for various integration modules and discuss the hurdles that still need to be overcome.

About the Speaker
Dr. César Javier Lockhart De La Rosa is Program Manager for the Exploratory Logic program at IMEC, where he leads efforts to identify and integrate the next generation of logic devices. He received his B.S. in Electronic Engineering from Universidad APEC (Dominican Republic), followed by an M.Sc. in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology from KU Leuven (Belgium) and Chalmers University (Sweden). He earned his Ph.D. in 2017 from KU Leuven in collaboration with IMEC, and continued as a Postdoctoral researcher in 2018, focusing on contact engineering and doping strategies for 2D TMDCs and graphene-based transistors.
His research spans a wide range of frontier topics, including selector devices for memory applications and the use of DNA for data storage. With a strong foundation in both materials science and device physics, Dr. Lockhart plays a key role in advancing FAB-compatible processes and novel approaches to logic integration involving 2D materials.
